Marriage In Eternity

Good afternoon all,

So apparently I got the category right when I posted this the first time.

I’m sure this has been discussed somewhere before, but I’ve been struggling with Matthew 22/Luke 20/Mark 12; the exchange between Jesus and the Sadducees, where Christ seems to suggest that Marriage will cease at the resurrection.

I doubt this reading particularly given Isaiah 65 and Ezekiel 37. That said, I am fully willing to admit I do not want marriage and childbearing (or even Polygyny) to cease after the resurrection. But I am also willing to conform myself to scripture.

Very curious for y’all’s thoughts on this.

I think I wasn’t specific enough. It’s not that existing marriages continue, that’s obviously not true.

It’s whether new ones are formed after the Resurrection and in Eternity. Whether male and female still marry and have children.

Interesting thought. I’ve become more convinced that eternity is not meant to be something all that much different than our current reality. It’ll just be missing the death and divisions. It’s our reality, just perfected.

During the millennial reign of Jesus Christ there will be marriage on earth, however from the passages you quote, it seems there won't be marriage in the new heavens and earth. That's my understanding of the distinction.

Well again, I do not want that to be the case. If it is, then ah well.

But Isaiah 65 starts with “Behold, I create a new Heavens and a New Earth,” and goes on to mention infants & childbearing

Ezekiel 37 talks about a post resurrection Israel being multiplied while David rules over them.

My interpretation of that is if you don't get married now, it's not happening after you die.

No sin, marriage, or death. It will be a VERY different reality than today's sad, violent world.

Perhaps. But there is a tendency in christian thought toward thinking that this world we look at is flawed, dysfunctional, and needs to be fixed, while I am more inclined to think His creation works as intended for the most part. Our own perceptions and experience is to a large degree colored by what we believe.
Adam was created capable of sinning..."The creature was made subject to vanity" and this was the will of God. His laws are in effect and we see "reaping what is sown" and judgment in kind returning upon those who judge others.
We cannot fathom a world of "perfection" as it is the contrasts that inform us. For example, we know sin by the law, we know peace because we deal with things like stress and war, we know health because there are times when it is tested by sickness.

I suggest reading "The kingdom of heaven is like......" parables and considering all the elements that Jesus said existed in the "Kingdom of heaven." It is eye opening for sure!

It’s says we’ll be like the angels, you know that hose guys who laid with the daughters of men…..

I think it’s safe to say that we really don’t have a lot of very specific teaching on what heaven will be like. It’s probably not profitable to speculate. Whatever it is going to be, it will be great. I’m hoping somehow that includes keeping my relationship with my wife. I admit that it’s hard to imagine life being great without her.
