Solid meme! I have seen this firsthand! Wives wanting the pastor to back them against their husbands... No! The pastor is not your head. He is not your husband! Wives need to submit unto their husbands even if he is making poor decisions. Even if he is incorrectly applying scripture.
He is her shield and cover. Her obedience is her protection against judgement by God.

I’m curious too. I think this era still has vestiges of the plantation mentality. Combine that with the great negro migration north during this period, and you would have a large population of black women available to work for cheap as domestics in upper middle class urban centers from Detroit, to Cleveland and all across the rust belt into NY.

I know this one is controversial and not meant to be discussed on this forum, but perhaps someone needs to hear it even if you oppose my view but I hope you come away with your position strengthened, because it was challenged.
