I'm hung up on you calling a 61 year old "elderly". Hey, she is only 9 years older than me!
Sixty-one is "late middle age". Elderly is more like 70+, or at least 65+.

That is so true. I've known elderly people in their 50s, and known people in their 80s that weren't elderly at all.

This truth gets more important each year as you “mature”. For me it really started kicking in during my late sixties.

Eventually I might talk about my father, maybe, but he's a casebook example of a man who just doesn't care to live anymore. He's 76 now and has been so abused by his nihilistic feminist wife that his mind is mostly gone. He's almost drooling-into-a-cup gone. This defeatist attitude will never be a part of my life.

Meanwhile my uncle is 95 and he still walks, is mentally one of the cleverest men I know, and he's charming and sprightly.

Awesome... my dad is 92, still drives, does errands, takes care of himself and his unwell wife, and has all his marbles in the bag.

Some people just give up living and they get old quickly, which is sad.
